Trish Jagoda, former owner of Silverbrook Kennels, has developed SK Retrievers 3-week residential obedience program. This method expands on all the benefits of “residential” training by having your dog live right here with me throughout the program in an area that looks just like your den or family room at home.
All training is done one-on-one. We individualize commands and address training needs specific to your pet and family. The program is designed to meet your specifications. During your initial consultation, I will provide insight into the specific behavioral issues you observe at home. We will also review objectives and expectations.
During your intake interview, the trainer will provide insight into the specific behavioral issues you are observing at home. We will also review objectives and expectations related to the challenges you experience due to children, multiple dogs, handicaps, etc. The Residential environment reinforces learning 24/7. All dogs residing with us through their training have the opportunity to live and work in our large “living room” so we can simulate life at home and the challenges they may face on a daily basis. Basic Obedience enhances your dog’s quality of life and, of course, yours too!
Throughout the program, your dog will master basic commands, such as sit, come, down, and heal. At the completion of the course, your dog will be heeling on and off leash, coming on command off leash, and understanding basic disciplines such as no jumping and waiting on command at doors and gates. Skills are taught so well that even with distractions, your dog will adhere to commands.
We believe owner involvement is vital to working towards an obedient and well-trained dog. We concentrate strongly on good handling skills and positive dog/handler relations. When you come to your 1 on 1 midterm training session or to pick up your dog after completing their 3-week program, we’ll review proper dog management, provide time for you to practice handling your dog, and then it’ll be our turn to say goodbye, because now we will miss them!
Trish has developed her own unique training program that she has practiced for almost 50 years. While Obedience is her specialty, she has trained VA State Police and Customs Narcotics Dogs and Competition Gun Dogs as well.
Trish has successfully qualified dogs in
the AKC Master Nationals and made 8 Hall of Fame dogs in her career.
Trish is an AKC Field Rep and AKC Judge
Mary was the first School Based Mental Health Therapist at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She worked for 22 years with inner city children. Her insight, in child development, has helped us mold and teach young dogs.
Mary is actively involved with the AKC Master Nationals as the Board appointed Safety Director as well as Stake Marshall. She is a pointed AKC Hunt Test Judge on all levels.
I have been training dogs with Trish since 2016. Starting out as an assistant, I quickly moved to trainer status and have been successfully working dogs ever since. I believe in teaching owners how to have a good quality of life with their dogs by showing them sound obedience practices.
Training dogs is my life's passion.
This is the best job I have ever had,
I feel like I never "work".
